CURE to the Rescue

CUHK CURE Fund provides support and assistance to over 230 University members

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused major disruptions for many lives and industries in Hong Kong. With a view to helping University members to meet current and future challenges, CUHK established the CU RElief Fund (CURE Fund) last year to provide support and assistance to students and colleagues who are adversely affected by the pandemic.

Vice-Chancellor and President Prof. Rocky S. Tuan and the seven Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Vice-Presidents at CUHK have set an example and taken the initiatives to donate portions of their salaries to the CURE Fund. Together with the generous support from staff members, alumni and friends of the University, the CURE Fund has raised about HK$ 7.7 million and created over 300 employment and internship opportunities for students in need, graduates in the last two years, and staff in junior posts. Over the past year, more than 230 CUHK members benefited from the CURE Fund.

In the 2020/21 academic year, the CURE Fund has provided a wide array of relief measures, including summer work-study scheme and internship opportunities for full-time undergraduate students, short-term working experience and various career opportunities for graduating class and alumni, and interest-free emergency loan for staff in junior posts.
