Sin, and Prof. Liu Pak-wai 由 新世界發展有限公司興建、位處中大校園內的 教學酒店於10月17日舉行平頂典禮。這所全港 首間的教學酒店分為酒店及教學設施兩部分,酒店部 分預計於2008年年底開幕。 教學酒店毗鄰大學火車站及公共交通交匯處,包含一 所面積達五萬平方米並設有567個房間的國際酒店, 設施包括水療中心、25米室外游泳池、健身室、網球 場、宴會廳、商務中心及中西餐廳等。教學設施部分 則達一萬平方米,設有辦公室、課室、小組研討室、 實驗室、實驗餐廳、展館等,這些教學設施屆時將與 以酒店管理學馳譽世界的美國康乃爾大學看齊,為中 大酒店及旅遊管理學院的研究及教學提供長期觀察及 實驗基地,有助學院開辦酒店管理的專業培訓及深造 課程。 出席平頂典禮的主禮嘉賓包括新世界發展有限公司董 事總經理鄭家純博士、執行董事冼為堅博士、執行董 事兼集團總經理梁志堅先生、中大校董會主席鄭維健 博士、校長劉遵義教授和副校長廖柏偉教授。 校長劉遵義教授致辭時指出,世界一流的酒店管理學院 大都設有其教學酒店,相信教學酒店啟用後,中大酒店 及旅遊管理學院很快能夠躋身世界級酒店管理學院之 列,在培訓專才、促進相關研究等方面作出重要貢獻。 酒店及旅遊管理學院院長李金漢教授表示,「教學酒 店是學院教育哲學的清楚宣告。教學酒店亦提供一個 平台,讓理論與最佳實務不住經常互相印證。」 A topping-out ceremony was held on 17 October for the University’s teaching hotel which is developed by New World Development Company Limited (NWD) on CUHK campus. The hotel, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, comprises both hotel and teaching facilities. The hotel is expected to be completed by the end of 2008. Situated right next to the KCR University Station, the 50,000 m 2 structure features 567 rooms, a spa, a 25 m outdoor swimming pool, a gymnasium, a tennis court, 香港中文大學成立 和聲書院 CUHK to Establish Lee Woo Sing College 中 大校董會於10月9日通過接受一筆港 幣一億五千萬元的捐款,成立和聲書 院。這所新書院計劃錄取600名宿生及不多於 600名走讀生。 社會人士對中大書院制的熱心支持,令劉遵 義校長十分鼓舞。他表示:「中大一向十分 重視書院制,書院所提供的親切環境、通識 教育和非形式教育,對培育優秀同學非常重 要。五所新書院已可提供足夠名額與新設 施,供在2012年新增的三千多名本科生享 用。」自2006年5月以來,大學獲多筆鉅額 捐款,迄今已分別成立了晨興書院、善衡書 院、敬文書院、伍宜孫書院及和聲書院。 捐贈者命名新書院為和聲書院,是要表揚李 和聲先生長期以來對發展和優化教育事業的 熱誠和貢獻。李和聲先生擔任中大校董和逸 夫書院校董多年,現同時出任逸夫書院校董 會副主席及大學校董會執行委員會成員。 T he CUHK Council approved on 9 October 2007 the acceptance of a major pledge of HK$150 million for the establishment of Lee Woo Sing College, the fifth new College established within 18 months. The College will accommodate 600 residential students and up to 600 commuters. Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, said, ‘CUHK takes great pride in its college system, which has contributed in very significant ways to the quality of the students. The University has been able to obtain donations to establish five new Colleges to provide sufficient places and new facilities for over 3,000 additional undergraduates in 2012.’ The newly established Colleges are Morningside College, S.H. Ho College, C.W. Chu College, Wu Yee Sun College, and Lee Woo Sing College. The anonymous donor chooses to name the new College after Mr. Lee Woo-sing because he has great admiration and respect for Mr. Lee’s commitment to education. Having served for many years as a member of the Council of CUHK and the Board of Trustees of Shaw College, Mr. Lee is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Shaw College, and a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of the University. function rooms, business centres and restaurants. The teaching facilities include a 10,000 m² complex for offices, classrooms, breakout rooms, laboratories, an experimental restaurant and a gallery. The teaching facilities will be comparable to those at the world-renowned Cornell Hotel School. The teaching hotel will provide a longitudinal and experimental base for education and research at the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM). It will also enable the school to hold different executive education programmes. Officiating at the ceremony were Dr. Cheng Kar-shun, Henry, managing director of NWD; Dr. Edgar W.K. Cheng, Council Chairman of CUHK; Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice- Chancellor of CUHK; Dr. David W.K. Sin, executive director of NWD; Mr. Stewart C.K. Leung, executive director and group general manager of NWD; and Prof. Liu Pak-wai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. In his address, Prof. Lawrence J. Lau said that all premier hotel schools have their own teaching hotels. He believed that the completion of the teaching hotel would give the SHTM a leg up in its bid to become a world-class hotel school. It would also play a pivotal role in grooming talent for the industry and facilitating relevant studies at the University. Prof. Lee Kam-hon, director of SHTM said, ‘The Teaching Hotel is a manifesto of our education philosophy. It is also a mechanism to facilitate intensive and regular interaction between theories and best practices.’
