The Research Grants Council (RGC) has awarded funding of over HK$15 million under the Theme-based Research Grants to the project ‘Enhancing Hong Kong’s Future as a Leading International Financial Centre’, in which Prof. Lin Chen in the Department of Finance Department and Prof. David Donald in the Faculty of Law Faculty are co-principal investigators. The team also includes Prof. Paul McGuinness in the Department of Finance and Prof. Robin Huang and Prof. Xi Chao in the Faculty of Law as co-investigators.

The project seeks to comprehensively analyze the role of Hong Kong’s economic and legal environment in supporting its position as an international financial centre and make widely disseminated recommendations to enhance Hong Kong's role in supporting the continuing development of China in the context of global financial stability.

It marks an important collaboration within CUHK as well as with the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the University of Oxford, which are participating institutions.  Members from CUHK will contribute their expertise on various aspects of the project, which include financial regulation and infrastructure, corporate governance, and the liberalization of the Chinese financial system.
