Social Work Department Receives Visitors from Singapore and US

On 23 April, a delegation from Singapore and Prof. Jeffrey Edleson, dean of the School of Social Welfare of the University of California, Berkeley, visited the Department of Social Work.

Organized by the Ministry of Health of Singapore, the delegation comprised 13 medical social workers and administrators from health care institutions providing intermediate- and long-term care (ILTC) services. Prof. Joyce Ma, chairperson of the Department of Social Work, and Prof. Wallace Chan, Prof. Wong Oi-ling, Mrs. Yau Ng Lai-tuen Monica and Ms. Ng Wai-ching Irene gave the delegation a presentation on the department’s research projects, deepening their understanding of the best practices and work of MSWs in Hong Kong, especially those in ILTC settings, including nursing homes, hospices, community hospitals and day care centres.

Prof. Jeffrey Edleson was given an update by Prof. Joyce Ma on the latest developments of the department and its academic programmes. Prof. Wong Hung, Prof. Lam Ching-man, Prof. Zhou Huiquan Mary, Prof. Dai Haijing, Prof. Wu Qiaobing also met Professor Edleson to share with him their research projects and services.
