During the semester break from 19 to 30 December 2013, 11 students of the BA (English Studies) and BEd (English Language Education) Programme participated in a 12-day 'School Experience in Beijing Programme' with the support of the Faculty of Education, Beijing Normal University and China's Ministry of Education under the umbrella of Mainland Interflow. This internship programme provided the participants with the opportunity to exchange ideas with students from Beijing Normal University and school teachers in Beijing on the education systems and English language teaching and learning of both places.

In addition, the participants visited schools, observed lessons and were introduced to the English language teaching pedagogy advocated there. As prospective teachers of English, the participants had the valuable chance to teach in three local primary schools where they met students of different backgrounds and put their pedagogical knowledge into practice in a different setting.
