• The Fifteenth Graduation Ceremony of Chung Chi College was held on 1st June, at which the Hon. Sir Michael Hogan, Chief Justice of Hong Kong, addressed the congregation, and Dr. C.J. Yung, President o f the College, distributed certificates and presented bibles to the graduands. • Mr. T.C. Cheng, President of United College, gave the opening address at a seminar on "Private Post-Secondary Colleges in Hong Kong" at Loke Yew Hall, University of Hong Kong, on 14th June. This two-day seminar was organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Students to discuss the role private post-secondary colleges should play in the Hong Kong educational system and their future status. A paper was presented by each of the 14 delegations of local post-secondary student bodies. • Dr. L.S. Chuang, Lecturer in Physics, Chung Chi College, attended the 9th Japan Conference on Radioisotopes held in Tokyo from 13th to 17th May, 1969. Dr. Chuang visited institutions of higher learning in Korea before going to Japan. • A Conference on "Religion and Social Change" jointly organized by the Philosophy Department and East-West Center of Hawaii University and religious groups of Hawaii, was held at New Asia College from 26th to 29th May. The Conference was attended by more than twenty Chinese, American, Japanese and Indian scholars, including President Ou Tsuin-chen and Prof. Tang Chun- i of New Asia College. • At the invitation of The Hong Kong Management Association, Dr. Sutu Hsin, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Business Management, United College, conducted a course of 2 lectures on "Factors in Small Business Success and Failure" in June. Topics dealt with in the course were: (a) The importance and problems of small business, and ( b) Small business success. • Prof. Tang Chun-i, Professor of Philosophy, and Mr. L i Tu, Lecturer in Philosophy, New Asia College, went to Hawaii on 14th June to participate in the East-West Philosophers' Conference. Prof. Tang also conducted a Summer Seminar at Hawaii University. • Mr. Leng Tsun, Head of the Department of Sociology, New Asia College, left for the University of Pittsburgh on 26t h June on vacation leave . After two months' research there, he will attend the International Conference on Records in Salt Lake City and the Annual Meeting of American Sociological Association in San Francisco, • Mrs. Gail Fu, Assistant Lecturer in English, Chung Chi College, attended the Conference on New Methods of Teaching and Learning English Language sponsored by the Regional English Language Centre for Southeast Asian Countries, which was held in Kuala Lumpur from 7th to 14th June. • Mr. Tschang Hsi Lin, Lecturer in Geography, Chung Chi College, has been awarded a Doctor of Science degree by the Tokyo University of Education; Mr . Yuk Wai Shun, Senior Technician of the Physics Department, Chung Chi College, has obtained a M.Sc. (Eng.) degree from King's College, University of London. • Dr. Chen Ching-ho, Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Advanced Chinese Studies and Research of New Asia College and concurrently Director of the Southeast Asian Studies Section of the Institute, left for Singapore and Malaya on 15th May to collect material on Chinese inscriptions on stones and tablets there. Dr. Chen returned to Hong Kong on 31st May. • Dr. S.T. Chang, Chairman of the Biology Department at Chung Chi College, has been granted a three-month study leave from 3rd June to make electron microscopic observations on the fungal hyphae in the Institute of Applied Microbiology at the University of Tokyo. Dr. Elvera L im is serving as Acting Chairman during Dr. Chang's absence. • Dr. Hu Shiu Ying, Senior Lecturer in Biology, Chung Chi College, left for the United States on 5th June to carry on her research project on Hong Kong flora at Harvard University. She will return early in September. • Dr. H.M. Chang, Dean of the Science Faculty of Chung Chi College, left for Taiwan on 6th June and spent two and a half weeks at the National Tsing Hua University to study neutron activation analysis with their nuclear reactor and to acquaint himself with their radioisotope instruments. • Mr . Chiu Yuen-to, Demonstrator in Business Management, New Asia College, left for West Germany on 6th June for further studies on a D A A D Scholarship. • Mrs. Ho Tung Te-hing, Lecturer in Sociology, New Asia College, left for the United States on 11th June to engage in "small group" research for one year in the Smith College School for Social Work in Massachusetts. — 1 0 —
