‘Environment Fair 2014’, CUHK Jockey Club Initiative Gaia’s annual signature event, was held on 1 March in Sunshine City Plaza. The event aims to promote green concepts and messages to the public in the form of a carnival in which people of all ages can enjoy and the theme of this year’s carnival is ‘Green Living’. Highlights of the event included a sharing session in which distinguished guests Ms. Anissa Wong, Permanent Secretary for the Environment/Director of Environmental Protection, The HKSAR Government; Dr. Rebecca Lee, Founder of Polar Museum Foundation, and Mr. David Yeung, Founder of Green Monday were invited to share their ideas and relevant experience with the public. Also, local schools and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) showcased their green initiatives and achievements at the fair. Exhibits included ‘upcycled’ products by St. James’ Settlement, green artwork made from discarded materials by Ng Yuk Secondary School (a member school of Gaia’s ‘Go Green Community—Jockey Club Carbon Reduction Partnership Scheme’), green projects by CUHK students that received awards in the ‘13th National Challenge Cup’, and more.

As with last year, the carnival also featured interesting interactive information and game booths on energy-saving, waste reduction and environmental protection that attracted and were well-received by many citizens.
