Forging partnerships to promote sustainable development Universities have a crucial role to play in making the world a better place for the present and future generations. Since 2010, UGC-funded universities have been working together through the Hong Kong Sustainable Campus Consortium to make Hong Kong a more sustainable society. Funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the three-year Jockey Club Sustainable Campus Consumer Programme was launched as a collaborative endeavour by the eight publicly funded universities to promote the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. The programme aims to groom a new generation of sustainable and responsible consumers through a series of campus environmental improvement and education initiatives. CUHK, Tsinghua University and The University of Hong Kong jointly hosted the 2021 World Philanthropy Forum in Beijing on 5 September, 2021, which was attended by more than 100 guests. The event was broadcast live online to more than 180,000 people. Under the theme of “Developing a sustainable philanthropy ecosystem”, it focused on topics such as using technology for social good, social services, eco-civilisation and international consensus, aiming to foster partnerships among universities to tackle challenges, strengthen social cohesion and promote the peaceful development of our country and the world.
