Annual Report 2021–22
Report of the Council 69 Teaching and learning in the new normal CUHK has continued to innovate in the delivery of high-quality learning and teaching. The COVID-19 pandemic was the catalyst for a rapid acceleration of digital transformation and although we are thrilled to return once again to in-person delivery for the 2022- 23 academic year, technology enabled learning and teaching will remain an integral part of our approach to educational delivery. This will be felt in a range of areas such as the continuation of our globally recognised Virtual Student Exchange Programme in collaboration with the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, the introduction of artificial intelligence technology into interviews for our Co-operative Education students, and deploying online delivery for general education courses. This unleashes boundless possibilities for how we reimagine our student experience, how we make best use of our physical estate, and for how we collaborate across borders. Contributing to and for China: national security education and building a sense of national identity CUHK is proud to be at the forefront of excellence in developing courses, lectures and events designed to increase awareness of national security issues and cultivate a sense of national identity across our student community. The 2022-23 academic year will see the introduction of two compulsory courses for students to increase their understanding of China’s national context and Hong Kong’s position in the wider constitutional order of the People’s Republic of China. The first course, Understanding China, enables students to grasp the rich and complex history of China, and its development in the modern era. The second course, Hong Kong in the Wider Constitutional Order, examines Hong Kong’s place in China’s broader constitutional context and introduces the fundamental constitutional principles underlying the One Country Two Systems framework, the Hong Kong Basic Law, and the Hong Kong National Security Law.
