Annual Report 2021–22

CUHK Annual Report 2021–2022 Both courses are rigorous, scholarly-based undertakings which build on CUHK’s renowned history for providing high-quality general education and the University’s commitment to whole- person development. These courses supplement other initiatives such as orientation lectures on national security, periodic lectures on issues such as global health security, food security and energy security so the CUHK community can cultivate a holistic awareness of security issues placed against the backdrop of major themes impacting daily lives. CUHK is thrilled that the 2022-23 academic year sees the operation of its new flagpoles located at the University Central Steps. These new flagpoles will be home to weekly flag raising ceremonies taking place throughout term time, as well as ceremonies to mark major holidays including the HKSAR Establishment Day, National Day, and New Year’s Day. All ceremonies will welcome participation from students, staff, alumni, community representatives, Council members and dignitaries from the Central People’s Government, HKSAR government, and members of the diplomatic corps. Integrating with national development: the 14 th 5-year plan and advancing Hong Kong’s unique role in the Greater Bay Area CUHK is more focused than ever on identifying opportunities to integrate with the nation’s development. The 2022-23 academic year will see the opening of the CUHK Shanghai Centre, which will serve as an important platform for academic, alumni and entrepreneurial collaborations in the Yangtze River Delta. Located in Yangpu District (a district designated by the State Council as a Mass Innovation and Mass Entrepreneurship Demonstration Zone), the CUHK Shanghai Centre will stand alongside other key satellites, partnerships and ventures across the nation which are spearheaded by an extensive network of activities across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA). Major new initiatives underway in the GBA include an exciting new Greater Bay Area University-CUHK Joint Institute of Advanced Materials and Green Energy Research in Dongguan to revolutionise talent training and advance critical research in areas outlined under the 14 th 5-year plan which are critical to the transformation of the GBA economy and the sustainable development of our planet. The Dongguan venture comes at an exciting time when CUHK is accelerating collaboration with CUHK-Shenzhen via a new Taskforce designed to advance closer links between the two campuses following the execution of a strategic framework collaboration agreement in December 2021.
