Professor Lam Hon- Ming, Choh-Ming Li Professor of Life Sciences and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology at CUHK and his team, supported by the China Manned Space Agency, the China Resources Research Institute of Science and Technology, and Shenzhou Space Biotechnology Group, sent specimens of rhizobia (soybean nitrogen fixing bacteria) into space on the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft that launched on 10 May 2023. The project aims to explore the changes in rhizobia under extraterrestrial conditions. Ultimately, the research team hopes to develop stress-tolerant rhizobia strains with improved nitrogen fixing efficiency, and eventually optimise the use of rhizobia, reduce use of chemical nitrogen fertilisers, improve soil conditions and contribute to a sustainable environment. 中大繼續領導開創性的研究,積極回應本地和全球 社群的需求,幫助社會解決各項急切問題。 CUHK has continued to position itself as a leader of groundbreaking research in response to the emerging needs and pressing problems of local and global communities. 開創富影響力的研究 PIONEERING IMPACTFUL RESEARCH 1 1 2 2 中大研究團隊的大豆固氮菌隨天舟六號貨運飛船 進入太空。 Rhizobia samples of the CUHK research team were taken to space by the Tianzhou-6 cargo spacecraft.
