校長引言 Introduction by Vice-Chancellor and President 9 本年度，大學繼續為推進聯合國可持續 發展目標（ SDG ）而努力，除了培育學生成 為具有全球公民意識的未來人才，亦積極 推動國際合作，通過不同活動，匯集世界 各地代表一同應對 21 世紀的重大挑戰。 2024 年 4 月，國家極地破冰船「雪龍 2 」 號首次訪港，中大有幸成為一系列歡迎 活動的唯一學術合作夥伴，一連兩天舉行 「氣候變化國際會議」，讓來自不同地方 的決策者和研究人員探討應對氣候變化 的解決方案。中大非常重視社會責任，按 照 SDG 訂立了大學社會責任目標，涵蓋大 學運作的不同領域，承諾竭力履行這些目 標，並透過不同舉措，為可持續發展貢獻 己力。 本年報記錄了大學這一年的卓越成就和重 要發展。撰文之際，我的心情非常複雜， 既充滿着這七年來擔任校長見證中大茁 壯成長的甜美回憶，同時亦感受到快將卸 任、臨別在即的不捨。我要向全體大學成 員表達誠摯的感謝，你們對大學發展全情 投入，對我們的使命堅信不移，賦予中大 力量去成就偉大。衷心祝願在全新領導下 中大未來會朝着光明道路跨步向前，堅守 着大學悠久傳統與價值，繁榮發展，繼續 作為人才搖籃、知識與創新樞紐、以及為 社會帶來深遠影響的重要力量。 香港中文大學校長 段崇智教授 The year 2023-2024 was also a time of amply manifesting CUHK’s dedication to advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Apart from nurturing students to become civic-minded global citizens, we proactively championed international cooperation through events which gathered delegates from around the world to tackle the grand challenges of the 21 st century. We were honoured to be the sole academic partner for activities organised around the inaugural visit of the national icebreaking vessel, Xue Long 2 , to Hong Kong in April 2024, hosting a two-day Global Conference for Climate Change for policymakers and researchers from across the world to engage in solution-oriented discussions about climate change. As a socially responsible institution, CUHK has remained steadfast in fulfilling its University Social Responsibility (USR) goals, which were set in alignment with the SDGs and apply to all areas of the University’s endeavours, and has put forward a number of active initiatives to contribute to the greater good. You will read more about our landmark achievements in the pages that follow. The current Annual Report records the major milestones that have defined a year of remarkable achievements and transformation for the University. As I pen these words, my heart is filled with mixed feelings of exquisite sweetness that arises from being able to witness the impressive growth of CUHK during my seven-year tenure, alongside the undisguised nostalgic feelings of parting as I will soon be stepping down from my role as Vice-Chancellor and President. I would like to express my deepest thanks to the entire CUHK community, whose genuine passion and fervent belief have been instrumental in empowering us to achieve great things together. May I offer my best wishes to the new leadership in guiding CUHK along its promising path towards the future, upholding the proud legacy and time-honoured values that define the University, so that CUHK will continue to prosper as a powerhouse for talent cultivation, knowledge generation, innovation, and social impact.
