Th e completio n o f thes e two building s no t on l y release d muc h neede d spac e elsewher e o n campus, bu t als o allowed considerabl e increase in the number o f classrooms available o n centra l campus , thu s greatl y facilitatin g time-tabl e scheduling. I t als o mean t tha t w e ar e no w abl e fo r th e firs t tim e t o house, w i t h hardl y an y exception , eac h academi c departmen t o f th e University a t a centralized location . Outside th e mai n campus , ther e wer e als o t w o ne w off-campu s buildings give n t o u s throug h th e generosit y o f friend s an d donors . There i s the Madam S.H . H o Hoste l a t the Princ e o f Wale s Hospital , wh i ch provide s accommodatio n fo r medica l student s undergoin g clinical training , an d th e Three-Yea r M B A Programm e T ow n Centr e in th e centrall y locate d Eas t Ocea n Centre . W i t h a floor are a o f 36 0 square metres , thi s Centr e prove s idea l fo r us e w i t h student s o f th e Programme, consistin g mostl y o f experience d wo r k i n g managers . Donat ions While th e Universit y i s a public institutio n dependen t mainl y o n Government subventio n fo r it s basi c expenditure , w e ar e alway s conscious o f th e goodwi l l an d generosit y o f man y individual s an d foundations, whos e suppor t fo r a wide spectru m o f ou r activitie s ha s steadily g r ow n ove r the years. Thi s suppor t comes in many forms f r o m hundreds o f donors , an d i n 1982—8 5 it amounte d t o mor e tha n $60M . Broadly speaking , th e f o l l owi n g categorie s o f activitie s hav e receive d the greates t shar e o f th e support : buildin g projects , researc h projects , endowment fo r a variet y o f academi c an d studen t activities , an d student suppor t an d award. Becaus e of this support, we have been able to improve physica l facilities, mak e innovations i n teaching and launc h into ne w area s o f academi c wo r k , and , I migh t say , the University ha s thus bee n abl e t o gai n a lead i n it s wo r k . O n behal f o f th e whol e Universit y I no w record , w i t h a dee p sense o f gratitude , th e severa l outstandin g gift s tha t hav e bee n bestowed on u s durin g th e pas t thre e years .
