Thi s i s th e firs t tim e graduate s o f a n institutio n outside th e Un i t e d Kingdo m hav e bee n grante d exemptio n b y th e British Compute r Societ y fro m bot h part s o f it s professiona l examinations. Students w i t h Compute r Scienc e a s a mino r subjec t wer e als o granted exemptio n fro m th e Society' s Par t I examination . Togethe r w i t h the Electronic s programm e whic h wa s full y accredite d b y th e Institutio n of Electrica l Engineer s o f th e Un i t e d Kingdo m i n 1974 , this wi l l for m a nucleus an d a f i rm bas e fo r th e developmen t o f a n integrate d engineering programme a t th e University . Engineering Studies Programme The proposa l fo r th e developmen t o f a n engineerin g studie s programme on th e basi s o f th e tw o existin g programme s o f Electronic s an d Computer Scienc e wa s firs t include d i n th e Academi c Developmen t Proposals fo r th e 1985-8 8 Triennium . W i t h th e encouragemen t o f th e University an d Polytechni c Grant s Committee , th e Universit y Counci l established a n Engineerin g Academi c Advisor y Committe e ( EAAC ) i n the summe r o f 198 6 t o guid e th e developmen t o f th e propose d programme.
