Research 硏究 29 於新撥款機制下獲得獎勵。 各學系須就過往四年之硏究成果於九四年十一月提交報告，正式評核於十二月開始。 是次內部評核意義深遠，結果顯示全校學系均開展了蓬勃的硏究活動，而成績卓越者比比 皆是，大學同人亦以高質素的硏究爲目標。該次評核也提供機會予各學系自行整理及評鑑 過往的工作，並爲將來定下目標，例如對硏究論著質素的要求，和爭取校外資助的指標 等。評核之最終意義，並非方便撥款或是引進部門之間的比較和競爭，而是鼓勵校方仔細 自我檢討，了解每一部門的強項和弱點，從而訂定整體發展的方向。 T h e h i g h l y i n c r e a s ed l e v el o f s u p p o rt r i g h t ly r equ i r es a greater d e g r ee o f accountability to the public. A research assessment exercise was c ondu c t ed by the University Grants Committee in 1993-94, and a part of the public funds allocated to the Un i v e r s i ty was t i ed to the results of the assessment. I n m u c h the same w a y, the University m o v e d i n 1994-95 t owa r ds an internal resource-allocation scheme that likewise contained an element that related to performance in research. For this purpose, the research performance of every department in each faculty was subjected to f o rmal scrutiny in an internal research assessment exercise, a nd g o od pe r f o rman ce w o u l d eventually be rewarded through the University's n ew funding mo d el to be implemented f r om 1995-96. The internal research assessment exercise was carried out in December 1994, based o n departmental submissions i n No v ember 1994, a nd referring to output i n the four preceding years. First a nd foremost, the assessment s h owed that the University was very active in 環境硏究中心獲裘槎基金會資助，建立一個環境監察系統，資料可供內地有關 決策人員取用，以策劃工業項目之開展。該計劃由梁怡教授主持。 The Centre of Environmental Studies has obtained support from the Croucher Foundation to establish a monitoring system which mainland decision-makers could access when planning industrial projects. Dr. Leung Yee is the principal researcher. 本校與中國科學院和台灣資訊工業策進會合辦大型的中文開放系統爾腦硏究計劃 Hanzix， 旨在消解兩岸三地中文電腦系統的字體及編碼分歧。 Hanzix 轉換軟件不 僅可讓字符作一對一轉換，而且可提供多個字符給用者選擇。 Hanzix, a large-scale Chinese computing project involving scientists from the CUHK, mainland China's Chinese Academy of Science, and Taiwan's Institute of Information Industry, is an attempt to resolve language differences in Chinese computing. The Hanzix software enables one-to-one character conversion and suggests other possible characters for the user to choose.
