T he total amo u nt of scholarships a nd financial h e lp g i v en out i n 1994-95 was HK$20.32 million, of w h i c h HK$ 14.99 m i l l i on was administered b y the Office of Student Affairs a n d HK$5-33 m i l l i on b y the f o ur colleges. Du r i ng the year, 1,351 University- a nd college- administered scholarships a nd prizes w i t h an aggregate value of HK$12.3 m i l l i on we re awa r d ed to students w i t h outstanding academic achievements as an incentive for t h em to c o n t i n ue to excel i n their studies. O f the University awards , about 13 per cent carried a value of HK$24,000 or over, w h i c h was sufficient to cover the annual t u i t i on fee. A b o ut six per cent of the undergraduates a n d 15 p er cen t o f the postgraduates w e r e o f f e r ed o ne or mo re of these Un i v e r s i ty awards. I n 1994-95, HK $ 2 . 06 m i l l i o n w a s g r a n t ed to 89 s t u d e n ts f o r p a r t i c i p a t i ng i n Un i v e r s i t y - a r r a n g ed e x c h a n ge p r o g r amme s, postgraduate studies, conferences, a n d study tours abroad . I n v i e w of the sharp increase i n t u i t i on fees i n recent years, there was a g r o w i ng d ema nd f r om students for financial assistance. A l t h o u gh the majority of the n e e dy students w e r e able to o b t a in f i n a n c i al h e l p f r om the G o v e r n m e nt Local F i n a n c i al Assistance Scheme, there w e r e some w h o , for various reasons, c o u ld n ot benefit f r om the scheme a nd h ad to t u r n to the University f or assistance. I n 1994-95, a total o f $3-45 m i l l i on wa s g i v en out, of w h i c h $2.7 m i l l i on was disbursed i n th e f o r m of loans a nd the balance i n the f o r m of bursaries. I n order to encourage students to m a k e better use of the s ummer mo n t hs b y e n g a g i ng themselves i n useful courses or i n study tours, Travel L o a ns a n d S u mm er L o a ns w e r e o f f e r ed a n d a t o t al amo u nt o f a b o ut $0.6 m i l l i on was g i v en out for these purposes. I n 1994-95, 890 students t o ok part i n the University a nd College Student Campus Wo r k Schemes, a n d som e HK$1.17 m i l l i on was disbursed for such schemes. 學生事務處發放之助學金及貸款 Bursaries and Loans Awarded through the Office of Student Affairs 金額（港元) Amount (HK$) 助學金 Bursaries 741,500 貸款 Loans 2,707,000 旅遊貸款 Travel loans 432,500 暑期援助貸款 Summer subsistence loans 163,000 心理輔導 Psychological Counselling Service 學生事務處之心理輔導組除提供治療服務外，亦致力於心理健康教育。一九九四至九 五年度，曾接受輔導服務或參與該組舉辦之活動的學生逾五百名，其中六成是主動求助， 三成爲健康問卷調查後需要跟進服務的一年級新生，其餘則由大學保健處、各學系及行政 部門轉介。該組亦經常舉辦小組活動，幫助學生發展自助能力及促進心理健康；又爲校內 有關部門舉辦工作坊，使經常需接觸學生的教職員可藉此提高對心理問題的認識及輔導技 巧，而校內的轉介系統亦因此能更有效地運作。
