58 教學輔助設施 Academic Support Facilities 文、英文及圖片。公眾可透過國際網絡及大學聯網，依 主題隨意檢索資料。 大學圖書館亦加緊準備更換電腦系統，已與一美國 廠商簽訂合約，設置在 UNIX 系統運行的 INNOPAC 設備， 下學年將有多種新服務面世。 Apart f r om serving faculty, staff and students, the U n i v e r s i ty L i b r a ry System has b e en m a k i n g its resources available to other institutions in the wo r ld of learning. In 1994-95, the CUHK library lent more books to other UGC-funded libraries than b o r r owed f r om them, and the lending to borrowing ratio was as high as 2.25:1 — an indication that the University has an excellent library collection and is a major provider of information for local academics. Du r i ng the year under review, a total of 41,070 v o l umes we re added to the University's library collection , bringing its total holdings to 1,278,998, a 3.3 per cent increase over 1993-94 . More CD-ROM titles were also added as they p r o v ed to be extremely popular, witnessing an increase of 17 per cent in the number of users. By the end of 1994-95 there were 102 drives at the University Library and 38 at the Medical Library for readin g CD-ROM titles. A major innovation by the University Library to enrich wo r ld information service was the launchin g of the new Hong Kong Newspaper Database. A project jointly funded by the UGC and the University for the daily assimilation, storage and indexing of full- text and graphics of selected local Chinese and English newspapers in digital form, the electronic database is open for searches by Internet, Harnet and dial-up users. The University Library also signed a contract w i t h Innovative Interface Inc. for a n ew library compute r system. Preparations for the total migration to the n ew UNIX- based automation system also began.
