Academic Support Facilities 教學輔助設施 6 3 多項加強環境保護的計劃已陸續展開,包括美化各書院的校園,改善排污系統,更換 不符環保的舊設施。校方亦十分關注政府在校園以北(白石角)進行之卸泥塡海工程。由 於該項工程將會影響校園環境,校方已開始監察臨近該址之環境質素,並要求政府採取切 實措施,盡量減低工程對本校的影響。 本年度校園之建設工程繁忙而饒有成果,增添了大批更完善更現代化的設施,配合日 趨多樣化的教研活動需要。 Substantial mo d i f i c a t i on a n d r e n o v a t i on w o r k was carried out i n mo r e t h an t en ma j or t e a c h i n g / a dm i n i s t r a t i o n / r e s e a r ch b u i l d i n gs to i mp l eme nt spatial reorganization p l a n n ed for various activities. Such buildings include the Lady Shaw Building, F u ng K i ng H e y Building, Li D a k Sum Building, Leung Kau K u i Building, H o Sin-Hang Engineering B u i l d i n g, T i n Ka P i ng B u i l d i n g, a n d the Central Library o n the central c amp u s; the Huma n i t i es B u i l d i ng o n the N e w Asia campus; Elisabeth Luce Mo o re Library a n d H o T i m B u i l d i ng o n the Ch u ng Chi campus; a nd the H o n g K o n g Institute of B i o t e c h n o l o gy o n the sea front. I n t he me a n t i me, ma ny amenities a n d activity centres w e r e e n h a n c ed t h r o u gh r e n o v a t i on a n d refitting-out. A m o n g t h em w e r e University Guest Houses I a n d II a n d c a n t e e n / k i t c h en facilities of the Staff C o mm on R o om Complex, changing facilities at the U n i v e r s i ty S w i mm i n g Po o l, a n d the I n d e p e n d e nt L e a r n i ng Ce n t re i n T i n Ka P i ng Bu i l d i n g. The campus b a c k b o ne n e t w o rk was extended to reach practically all non-domestic b u i l d i n g s. Ma ny i n d i v i d u al departments a n d units w e re i n c o r p o r a t ed w i t h local area n e t wo r ks a n d connected to the b a c k b o ne system i n the year, i n c l u d i ng on-line finance systems. Major b u i l d i ng projects i n an advanced stage of design i n c l u d ed t w o further phases o f r e d e v e l o p m e nt of t he t e a c h i ng a n d a dm i n i s t r a t i ve b u i l d i n gs o n the C h u n g C h i campus, a n e w science b u i l d i ng c omp l ex for the engineering a nd science departments, t w o b l o c ks o f 72 flats of s e n i or staff residence, a 4 5 0 - b ed h o s t el f or p o s t g r a d u a te students, a n d an e v e n i ng amenities centre for Un i t ed College. A greater awa r e n e ss o f e n v i r o nme n t al p r o t e c t i on also b r o u g ht a b o ut several projects i n d i f f e r e nt stages of i m p l e m e n t a t i on or d e s i g n: l a n d s c a p i ng s c h emes at t he c o l l e g e s, i m p r o v e m e nt o f drainage a nd wastage discharge systems, a n d installation of plants that are environment-friendly to replace o l d ones. T he prospective reclamation a nd p u b l ic d u mp at Pak Shek K o k to the n o r th of the campus also caused the University great c o n c e rn because of possible adverse effects o n the campus e n v i r o n m e n t . P r e p r o j e ct b a s e l i ne m o n i t o r i n g o f t h e University e n v i r o nme nt b e g an a nd assurances of m i t i g a t i on measures w e r e b e i ng sought f r om the g o v e r nme n t. I n all, 1994-95 w a s a b u sy a n d f r u i t f ul y e ar f o r t he d e v e l o pme nt of the University's physical plant, generating a n a b u n d a n ce of i m p r o v ed a n d u p d a t ed facilities, catering to the mo re i mp e n d i ng needs o f multifarious activities.
