A survey conducted for 1995 CUHK graduates shows tha t nearly all graduates were able to secure employment w i t h in six months afte r graduation. Education, commerce and industry continued to be the major sectors of employment. Graduates were also employed in the civil service or public and social service organizations. As many as 1,003 organizations advertised 3,409 vacancies for fresh graduates through the Appointments Service in the year ending 31st July 1996. Another 907 organizations provided 5,768 vacancies fo r part-time and summer jobs for students during the period. D u r i ng the year, the Un i v e r s i ty pa r t i c i pa t e d i n the n ew Joint I n s t i t u t i on Job Information System (JIJIS), wh i ch is a joint effort by career centres of seven local tertiary institutions to provide employers w i th a one-stop shop for disseminating jo b information. Students of this university can n ow obtai n on-line job i n f o rma t i on t h r ough an inter- institutional computer network. A self-initiated approach was advocated for g r aduands wh en p l a n n i ng and implementing their career plans.
