網絡基建 Ne t wo r k I n f r a s t r u c t u re 連同新裝置和獲改善的局域網，本校局域網年 內增至七十餘個，使校園網絡的覆蓋範圍更廣。中 央電話調制解調器線路亦增至一百條，方便學生及 教師在家中進入校園網絡和國際網絡。學生宿舍聯 網計劃工程浩大，已於年內展開，預計於一九九七 年初完成，屆時校園所有宿生約四千三百人將可直 接從房間聯上校園網絡及國際網絡。由資訊科技服 務處倡議並統籌的「香港國際網絡交換中心」計劃獲 廣泛支持。該計劃旨在提高本港國際網絡的應用技 術，並協助本校員生更快地在網上取得有關香港教育、科研、傳媒及政府的參考資料。 The size of the campus n e t wo rk g r ew substantially d u r i ng the year w i t h th e implementation o f new and upgraded departmental networks, wh i ch now total over 70. This network is linked to Internet and is accessible through some 100 telephone dial-up lines by students and staff f r om their homes. A major project on student hostel networking started in 1995-96 and is targeted for completion by early 1997 . By then the 4,300 students l i v i ng in hostels shal l be able to tap into the campus an d global information networks individually. Another important project initiated during the year is the Hong Kong Internet Exchange (HKIX) Project. Fully supported by the local Internet community, the project w i l l enhance Internet application developments in Ho ng Kong and serve as an integral part of the campus network, p r ov i d i ng user s w i t h hig h speed access t o local research, educational, media , and governmental reference information. 電腦設施 Comp u t i ng Facilities 校園學術運算系統平台年內增設「多處理器 UNIX 服務器」一台，配備充足存儲器和高速 訊道，可處理大量研究數據；又籌劃添置高性能運算系統一台，便利院系開展須使用高速運 算的科研項目。 New computing facilities installed du r i ng 1995-96 includ e a new multi-processor UN I X server for the academic computing platforms. It is equipped w i t h abundant online storage and fast channels, and basically serves users who nee d to process huge volumes of data.
