藝術系學生畢業年展 Graduation exhibition of the Department ofFine Arts The Art Mu s e um of The Chinese University contributes to the cultural life of Ho ng Kong by promoting the appreciation of Chinese art through its exhibitions, publications, and seminars. To celebrate its 25th anniversary i n 1996-97, the Art Museum organized the ‘Chinese Art Treasures in Academia: Art Mu s e um of The Chinese University of Ho ng Kong Silver Jubilee Exhibition' which featured highlight s of its permanent collection. An international symposium on new studies in Chinese art and antiquitie s was also jointly organized with the Friends of the Art Museum to provide a forum for prominent scholars from overseas and mainland China to present the latest research findings on Chinese art and antiquities. The Professor and Mrs. Cheng Te-k'un Academic Fund for Chinese Ar t and Archaeology was also set up with a generous donation of three million dollars from Prof. and Mrs. Cheng Te-k'un to promote academic programmes in Chinese art and archaeology. Other important exhibitions held during the year included the Mufei Collection of Ceramics, which featured over 200 pieces of Chinese and Southeast Asian trade ceramics; the exhibition of 'Chinese Handwriting in Hon g Kong: Gleanings of a Hundred Years', which displayed the fine calligraphy by eminent figures who lived in Hong Kong since the end of the last century; the exhibition 'A Bond in Art 一 Ban Yuan Collection of Works by Gao Jianfu', which featured masterpieces by Gao Jianfu, the founder of the Lingnan School. The Art Museum also organized two exhibitions jointly with the Department of Fine Arts ——the faculty s h ow in c ommemo r a t i on of the 40th anniversary of the department, and the annual graduation exhibition. Throughout the year 1996- 97, the Art Museum attracte d more than 30,000 visitors to its galleries. The Chinese University Press published bot h scholarly works for the academic community and books for the general readers, in print or in audio-visual format. During the year, 11 original academic works, four issues of academic journals, 20 new general titles, and two audio-visual educational programmes were published. In addition, 14 published titles were reprinted. All these represented significant contributions of knowledge to the community at large. 50 服務香港 放眼世界
