另有七十六名學生獲頒獎學金參加海外交換生計劃、硏究院課程、海外會議或交流計劃,金額約 二百萬元。 近年學費大幅提高,需要經濟援助的學生雖可獲政府的本地專上學生資助計劃資助,但仍有小部 分由於種種原因須向大學求助。本校在一九九六至九七年度撥款六百萬港元成立兩項貸款計劃: 「新生入學特別貸款」為新生提供免息貸款,繳交註冊入學所需費用;「學生輔助貸款」只收取低 息,專供有特別經濟困難的學生申請。除此兩項新貸款外,本校是年尚為學生提供約九百零八萬 元的援助,其中七百一十七萬元為貸款,其餘為助學金。 此外,有八百六十五名學生參與大學及書院的學生工讀計劃,共領取津貼一百五十九萬元。 The year under review saw continuous growth in the provision of scholarships and financial assistance to students; the total amount given out was HK$27.92 million, of which HK$17.24 million was administered by the Office of Student Affairs and HK$10.68 million by the four colleges, New scholarships were established during the year. The Swedish Foundation for International Cooperation in Research and Higher Education provided two STINT Scholarships to enable students of this university to participate in master-level programmes offered by Swedish universities. The Hongkong Bank Foundation donated three Hongkongbank One-Year Exchange Scholarships to enable full-time next-to-final undergraduate students to take part in one-year exchange programmes in nominated universities. A total of 1,199 University- and college-administered scholarships and prizes with an aggregate value of HK$16.46 million were awarded to students with outstanding academic achievements as an incentive for them to continue to excel in their studies. Of the 560 University awards, about 10 per cent carried a value of HK$37,350 or more each, which was sufficient to cover the annual tuition fee. Some HK$2 million was granted to 76 students for participating in University-arranged exchange programmes, postgraduate studies, conferences, and study tours abroad. In view of the sharp increas e in tuition fees in recent years, there was a growing demand from students for financial assistance.
