who, for various reasons, could not benefit from the schem e and had to turn to the University for assistance. In 1996-97, the University set up two new loan schemes, each wit h a provision of HK$3 million. Student Bridging Loans were offered to newly admitted students who had difficulty paying the prescribed registration fees. Low-interest Student Supplementary Loans wer e offered to students who had special financial needs. Apart from these two loan schemes, a total of HK$7.17 million was given out in the form of loans and HK$1.91 million in the form of bursaries. In 1996-97, 865 students benefited from the University and College Student Campus Wor k Schemes, for which some HK$1.59 million was disbursed. 心理輔導 Psychological Counselling Service 學生事務處心理輔導組經常舉辦不同性質和主題的活動,並提供個人輔導,協助學生適應大學生 活,促進個人發展及保持心理健康。 是年接受輔導或參與該組活動的學生近五百名。接受個人輔導的學生之中,近七成是主動求助, 逾一成為健康問卷調查後需要跟進服務的一年級新生,其餘則由大學保健處、各學系及行政部門 轉介。 校方致力加強學生的心理健康敎育,舉辦多種心理健康小組活動、研習坊及資料展覽,又購置有 關的書籍及視聽敎材,供學生和敎職員借閲。 Psychological counselling through individual counselling sessions and regular programmes was made available to students throughout the year to facilitate their adjustment to universit y life and to enhance their personal growth and mental health. In 1996-97, close to 50 0 students sought counselling services or participated in various activities organized by the Psychological Counselling Unit. Among those wh o received individual counselling, about 67 per cent were self-referrals while 13 per cent were first-year student s who were offered follow-up service after participating in the annual mental health screening exercise.
