A survey of 1996 CUHK graduates shows that nearly all graduates were able to secure employment within six months after graduation. Education, commerce and industry continued to be the major sectors of employment. Graduates were also employed in the civil servic e or public and social service organizations. As many as 2,241 organizations advertised 9,014 vacancies fo r fresh graduates through the University's Appointments Service in the year ending 31st July 1997. Some 737 organizations provided 7,041 vacancies for part-time and summer jobs for students during the period. In the same year, the University participated in the Joint Institution Job Information System (JIJIS), which is a joint effort by career centres of seven local tertiar y institutions to provide employers with a one-stop shop for disseminating job information.
