Li speaking at the forum. New technologies, ideas, and processes resulting from research have led t o much increased technology transfer activities in 1998-99. Through licensing, spin-off companies, and other channels, many invention s with commercial value were successfully transferred to loca l and international businesses and industries. T o the University, technology transfer is a form of service to the community and a way to contribute to high-tech and high- value added industries in Hong Kong. Recent successes have also brought recognition to many outstanding researchers, provide d incentive for them to work on topics of relevance to society, encouraged more students to engage in applied research, and sometimes generated income to support R & D activities. i n t e r n a t i o n a l r e l a t i o n s Another way of attaining the highest of all standards and achieving international credibility is through exchange and collaboration with centres of excellence worldwide. Mu ch attention has thus been pai d to the cultivation of extensive links with prestigious universities, research centres , and international bodies. The University is glad to report that its Faculty of Business Administration has become one of the first business schools in Asia to have been accredited by the AACSB - International Association for Management Education. The association is internationall y known as the premier accrediting agency for degree programmes in business administration, accounting, and management , and CUHK's business school was the first in Asia to have been invited to undergo its accreditation process. Having been formally accredited in April 1999, its links with other world famous business schools in Harvard, Yale, Northwestern University , the University of Pennsylvania and the like are expected to strengthen further. Another significant event epitomizing the University's efforts in this direction was the 'Vice-Chancellors' and Presidents' Forum on Gtobal Tertiary Education Development' held from 19th to 21st April 1999.
