為改善語文敎育,校方進行了全校性的調查,以確定學生的需 要;並於一九九八年年底舉行了評估語文改善計劃硏討會,探 討如何評估語文改善活動的成效。 校方又於一九九八年年底成立了學生資訊科技能力工作小組, 制定學生資訊科技能力計劃的推行細節,決定為一九九九至 二零零零年度及以後入學的學生提供訓練及測試,讓他們畢業 時具備起碼的資訊科技能力。 學術交流 本校繼續拓展與內地及台灣學術機構的交流合作,是年接待了 兩岸逾百個學術代表團及逾千名學者。此外,校方更與多個合作 夥伴攜手成立新的聯合科硏中心,包括與浙江大學合作成立的 「生物醫學工程聯合硏究中心」,與北京大學合作成立的「智能 工程聯合硏究中心」及「植物基因工程聯合實驗室」,以及與 軍事醫學科學院合作成立的「上皮細胞生物學硏究中心」。 was adopted to help teachers reflect upon the effectiveness of their teaching. Following an overall review of the general education programme in mid- 1997, a further review was conducted in mid-1998 to refine the delivery system. An extra credit unit was subsequently assigned to the college general education programmes starting from 1998-99, and the total unit requirements of general education were standardized. To improve language enhancement programmes for the students, a university-wide survey was conducted in 1998-99 to gauge student needs, and a Workshop on the Assessment of Language Enhancement Programmes was organized at the end of 1998 to identify the best ways of assessing the effectiveness of the language enhancement activities. In late 1998, a Working Party on Student IT Competence was established to formulate plans for ensuring IT proficiency among students. As a result, a training and test package of basic I T skills was designed for students admitt level of competence in IT upon graduation. a c a d e m i c e x c h a n g e The University continued to develop academic links with the mainland and Taiwan. During the year, over 1,000 academics and 100 delegations from both regions were received by various units. The University also developed new collaborative projects with its partners. Such projects include the Joint Research Centre for Biomedical Engineering with Zhejiang University, the Joint Centre for Intelligence Engineering and the Joint Laboratory on Plant Biotechnology with Peking University, and the Centre for Epithelial Cell Biology Research with the Academy of Military Medical Sciences. The University also organized a number of international conferences, seminars, and lectures which involved the participation of many mainland and Taiwanese institutions.
