o 工程學院設立「虛擬現實、可視化與圖像處理研究中心」，以硏 究有關的高新科技並促進科技轉移。 o 該院與北京大學合設「智能工程聯合硏究中心」，進行智能及 訊息科學技術的尖端硏究。 o 該院與浙江大學攜手成立「生物醫學工程聯合硏究中心」，旨在 利用現代工程技術的手段，解決醫學方面的診斷和治療等問題， 並開發新的醫用儀器。 o 該院於一九九九年四月舉辦「創新科技展覽」，介紹該院的應 用科技硏究成果。 o 訊息工程學系主辦的「香港資訊校園」為四百多間中小學及五千 多名敎師提供上網服務；工程學院更與華南理工大學、卡尼基 梅隆大學及台灣中央硏究院合創「數碼圖書館」科硏項目，為香 港成為互聯網資訊中心奠下基石；該院又與本地兩所大學、政 府及工業界合辦「青年企業家培訓計劃」，為香港培育年青的 企業家，發展高新科技。 o 機械與自動化工程學系遷進新落成的蒙民偉樓，得以設立更多 先進的硏究及敎學實驗室。 o A Virtual Reality, Visualization and Imaging Research Centre was established to facilitate research in and technology transfer of applications that involve powerful visualization, advanced imaging, and innovative virtual reality techniques. o The Joint Centre for Intelligence Engineering was set up with Peking University to pursue forefront research in intelligence engineering. o The Joint Research Centre for Biomedical Engineering was set up in collaboration with Zhejiang University to explore the application of innovative techniques and engineering principles to solve medical and biological problems. o The faculty staged an Innovation and Technology Fair in April 1999 to showcase its strength in applied research. o The Hong Kong Cyber Campus was stepped up to provide Internet services to more than 400 primary and secondary schools and over 5,000 teachers; the Digital Library I nitiative was launched i n collaboration wit h South China University of Technology, Carnegie-Mellon University, and Academia Sinica of Taiwan to develop Hong Kong into a n Internet Content Hub; and an Information Technology Enterpreneur Fellowship was established jointl y with two local universities, the Government, and industry to provide preincubation support for young enterpreneurs in Hong Kong. o New research laboratories in robotics, smart materials, advanced microsystems, CAD/CAM, vision and control theory and systems were established in the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering following its move to the new Mong Man Wai Building. 學術發展 Academic Development 27
