o 醫學院獲香港賽馬會慨捐五千一百萬港元興建的公共衛生學院 正式動工。其「健康學校計劃」又獲優質敎育基金撥款一千五百 萬港元於年內開展，其中包括一個兩年兼讀制的「健康敎育專 業文憑課程」。 o 解剖學系牽頭在香港成立「華人腦科學協會」。 o 設於威爾斯親王醫院的「矯型外科及創傷學進修培訓中心」正式 開幕。該中心獲李嘉誠基金會 、Stryker Howmedica 及鄧煜懷 家族捐助成立。 o 外科學系的醫生成功進行全球首宗嬰兒腹腔鏡胰腺次全切除術， 又利用「電腦輔助影像導向系統」成功進行鼻竇手術。 o 厚達九百頁的敎科書 Textbook of Clinical Medicine for Asia 經 由內科及藥物治療學系出版。 o 該院轄下學系主辦了五個大型會議和工作坊： 一第一屆全國胎兒監護學術硏討會（婦產科學系） 一第一屆泛太平洋護理會議（護理學系） —Advances in Medicine 1999 (內科及藥物治療學系） 一國際前列腺腫瘤硏討會（外科學系） 一中國家庭醫學的進展學術會議（社區及家庭醫學系） o Construction work of the School of Publi c Health, to be built with a HK$51 million donation from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, formally began. A 'Healthy Schools Programme' which includes a two-year part-time Professional Diploma Course in Health Education was also launched with a grant of HK$15 million from the Quality Education Fund. o The Department of Anatomy coordinated the establishment of a Chinese Brain Research Organization in Hong Kong. o The Orthopaedic Learning Centre, constructed with donations from the Li Ka Shing Foundation, Stryker Howmedica, and the estate of Mr. Tang Yuk Wai was formally opened at the Prince of Wales Hospital. o Doctors in the Department of Surgery performed the world's first Laparoscopic 95 per cent Subtotal Pancreatectomy in Infancy, and launched a computer-assisted image guidance system for sinus surgery. o Textbook of Clinical Medicine for Asia, a 900-page t e x t b o ok c o m p i l ed by the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, rolled off the press. o Five major conferences/workshops were organized by various departments ： —The First National Symposium on Foetal Monitoring in China (Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) —The First Pan-Pacific Nursing Conference (Department of Nursing) —'Advances in Medicine 1999' (Department of Medicine and Therapeutics) —International Workshop on Prostatic Cancer (Division of Urology , Department of Surgery) —Seminar on Advancing Family Medicine in China (Department of Community and Family Medicine) 學術發展 Academic Development 29
