o 理學院增辦了材料科學及分子生物技術學兩項本科課程。 o 該院推出語文改善計劃，加強學生的英語能力。 o 該院革新沿用五年多的科目檢討問卷的內容及設計，新問卷於一 九九八至九九年度上學期開始使用。 o 該院設立院長榮譽錄，嘉獎學業成績優異的非畢業班學生。共有 廿一位一年級及廿七位二年級學生據一九九七至九八年度的成 績而獲此殊榮。 o 理學院有四個卓越學科領域獲選為大學的卓越學科領域，分別 為基因學與生物訊息學，材料科學與技術，植物與真菌生物 科技，以及合成化學。 o 科學館於是年進行大規模翻新，為理學院各學系提供更佳的設 施；而生物化學系部分辦公室及實驗室亦遷往新落成的蒙民偉 樓。 o Two new undergraduate programmes, one in materials science and the other in molecular biotechnology, were introduced. o A language enhancement programme was launched for students in need of improvement in English proficiency. o Course evaluation questionnaires which had been in use since 1993-94 were reviewed and amended to simplify the contents and format. A new set of questionnaires were adopted from the first term of 1998-99. o The Dean's Honours List was introduced to give recognition to students in non-graduating classes for outstanding academic performance. A tota l of 21 year 1 and 27 year 2 students were so honoured on the basis of their performance in 1997-98. o Four areas of excellence identified by the faculty were selected as the University's areas of excellence. They include Genomics and Bioinformatics, Materials Science and Technology, Plant and Fungal Biotechnology, and Synthetic Chemistry. o The Science Centre complex underwent major renovation to provide better infrastructural support to the science departments. New offices and laboratories were provided for the Department of Biochemistry as it moved into the new Mong Man Wai Building. 學術發展 Academic Development 31
