o 建築學系和中國建設部聯合成立「中國城市住宅硏究中心」，目 的是為內地硏發高品質、高密度及低造價的城市住宅。 o 地理系和逸夫書院合辦「二十一世紀的中國和世界」國際地理學 術討論會，探討資源與環境的可持續利用與保護、農業、人口遷 移與城市化、區域經濟協調發展、二十一世紀的地理敎育等課 題。 o 新聞與傳播學系舉辦「追尋邊界：傳播、國家與文化認同」國際 會議，以多元視野考察全球化、本土化與界線重整的關係。 o 心理學系贊助舉辦香港心理學會三十周年研討大會，回顧及展望 香港的心理學及心理服務的發展。 o 社會科學院敎師推動成立「香港社會學學會」，副校長兼社會學 講座敎授金耀基敎授獲選為首屆會長，社會學系系主任劉兆佳敎 授則獲委為該學會的《香港社會學學報》的主編。 o The Department of Architecture, in partnership with the Ministry o f Construction of China, established the Centre for Housing Innovations, a research centre aiming to develop high quality, high density, and affordable urban housing in mainland China. o The Department of Geography and Shaw College co-organized an international conference entitled 'China and the World in the 21st Century' to address issues such as sustainable resource utilization and environmental protection, agriculture, population migration and urbanization, regional disparity and economic development, and geographical education in the 21 st century. o The Department of Journalism and Communication organized an international conference entitled' In Search of Boundaries: Communication, Nation- States and Cultural Identities' to tackle the inter-relationships among globalization, localization, and boundary formation. o The Department of Psychology sponsored the 30th Anniversary Conference of the Hong Kong Psychological Society entitled 'Psychology in Hong Kong ： Entering the 21st Century', during which participants evaluated the development of psychology and psychological services in Hong Kong. o Faculty members took the lead to establish the Hong Kong Sociological Association. Prof. Ambrose Y.C. King, pro-vice-chancellor and professor of sociology, was elected president of the association. Prof. Lau Siu-kai, chairman of the Department of Sociology, was appointed editor-in-chief of the association's official j o u r n a l: Hong Kong Journal of Sociology. 學術發展 Academic Development 33
