Leung Yee, Leung Kwok Sak, and Funf Tung 傑出研究•Outstanding Research 社會科學院 Faculty of Social Science 運用於遙感及地理系訊息系統作環境監察的以物為本、知識 為基的圖像分析系統 Object-oriented Knowledge-based Image Analysis System for Environment Monitoring Using Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems 這項跨科硏究由地理系馮通教授和梁怡教授以及計算機科學與工程學系梁廣錫教授聯合主 持，目的是開發高能的遙感和地理訊息系統，以監察環境的轉變。三位教授成功建造了一 個能提取動態數據的以物為本地理訊息系統，以及一個抽象架構，可利用日常概念作空間 推理，並能以物為本作內部管理。硏究人員又發展了一種新的圖像壓縮技術來處理衛星數 據，能達至可觀的壓縮比而不會損失任何數據。 An interdisciplinary research headed by Fung Tung and Leung Yee of the Department of Geography and Prof. Leung Kwong Sak of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the project aimed at producing high-powered remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS) for the effective monitoring of the content and quality changes in the environment, The researchers have successfully developed and object-oriented GIS which provides dynamic data capture, and a conceptual framework within which spatial reasoning can be performed via everyday concepts and managed by the object-oriented approach. A new image compression technique has also been devised for handling remotely sensed data from satellites with good compression ratio and no loss in information.
