支援工商業 香港中文大學亞太工商硏究所致力為管理人員及各類工商業機構 提供培訓、硏究及顧問服務，旨在加強他們的實力，以迎接二 十一世紀本港及亞太地區商業發展帶來的新挑戰。是年該所與 美國多所著名學府合辦行政人員培訓課程，並為本地及內地 企業舉辦培訓班、工作坊和研討會，包括十項公開文憑課程及 一項證書課程。其中一項為該所主辦，一項與聯合交易所合辦， 其餘八項則與香港中文大學工商管理學院合辦。該所每年又開 辦商業傳意證書課程，旨在增強商業行政人員運用英語的能力。 香港生物科技硏究院有限公司於一九九八年十二月慶祝成立十周 年，並繼續致力推動本地生物科技工業的發展。 該院已為世界衛生組織 完成抗瘧疾疫苗臨床實 驗用藥物生產，並成立 臨床實驗監察組，與醫 學院合作於一九九九年 年初在威爾斯親王醫院 開展該疫苗的第一期臨 床實驗。 另該院在香港政府工業 署的支持下，正興建中 藥萃取濃縮製程開發硏 究中心，該中心將於一九九九年十月落成。 此外，本校獲政府及工業界大力支持，於一九九九年一月成 立表面及材料分析中心，為工業界提供分析及諮詢服務，以解 決金屬加工及相關工業的生產問題。 i n s u p p o r t o f b u s i n e ss a n d i n d u s t r y For the business community, educational programmes and research/ consultancy services continued to be provided through the University's Asia-Pacific Institute of Business (APIB) to assist managers and companies in meeting business challenges of the next century in Hong Kong and the Asia- Pacific Region. During 1998-99, several executive training programmes were organized in conjunction with major universities in the United States. In-company training workshops and seminars fo r local and mainland companies were also conducted. A total of 10 public diploma programmes and one certificate programme were offered. Of those, eight were jointly organized with the Faculty of Busines s Administration, one with the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, and one by APIB itself. The certificate programme was in business communication and served to help business executives enhance their English proficiency. The Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology Limited (HKIB), which celebrated its 10th anniversary in December 1998, continued to function as the catalyst and the essential infrastructure for Hong Kong's biotechnology industry. It produced a new anti-malaria vaccine for WH O and set up a Clinical Trial Monitoring Unit which, in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine , started a trial of the vaccine a t the Prince of Wales Hospital in early 1999. In order to support the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) products, HKIB is building a Process Facility for the Extraction and Concentration of TCM Herbs, with financia l assistance from the Industry Department of the HKSAR government. The facility will begin operation in October 1999. And in January 1999, an Advanced Surface and Materials Analysis Centre was formally opened with financia l support from the government and local manufacturers to render crucial research assistance and expert analysis for local high value-added industries like surface finishing and electronic packaging. 服務香港 放眼世界 Service to H o n g Kong and the W o r ld 53
