校長報告 6 VICE-CHANCELLOR' S REVIE W 段逐步落實。中大希望藉此不斷自我改善，並以身作則，把 環保訊息從校園傳開去，感染其他院校和機構一同努力。 員生表現 在學術、研究、社會服務，以及其他活動方面，本校員生 的成績也極為出眾，為個人及大學取得多項榮譽。計有黎穎 瑜奪得二零零零年的羅德獎學金，將以羅德學人身分赴牛津 大學深造；趙詠賢以其在本地及國際壁球比賽的優異成績， 榮膺香港大專體育協會二零零零年的最佳女運動員；另工 程學榮譽講座敎授高錕敎授，獲英文《亞洲新聞》週刊選為 二十世紀最具影響力的五位亞洲人之一；而眼科及視覺科學 學系的林順潮敎授，則於瑞士舉行的世界經濟論壇中，給 推選為全球一百名未來領袖之一。諸如此類的成就，散見本 年報其他章節。 Prof. Charles Kao, m y predecessor and n ow our honorary professor of engineering, was selected by Asiaweek magazine as one of the five most influential people in Asia in the 20th century. Prof. Dennis L am of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences was selected one of the 100 Global Leaders for T o m o r r ow b y the Wo r l d Economic F o r um i n Switzerland. These and other significant achievements by members o£ the University can be found in the chapters that follow. A General Endowment Fund Perhaps i t is due to these impressive accomplishments that our friends, alumni, and benefactors have continued to render to the University their generous support. I am particularly appreciative of those w h o have responded enthusiastically to m y millennium appeal for donations to establish The Chinese University of H o n g Ko ng General Endowment Fund. A t a time wh en only reduction in government funding can be expected, the University cannot but rely more and more on donations and other forms of sponsorship f r om the private sector to support the high standard of its teaching and research.
