校長報告 7 VICE-CHANCELLOR' S REVIEW 中大發展基金 也許正因為這些成就，致使來自校友及各方友好的支持不 斷。我尤其感激眾多曾響應我們的呼籲，於新千禧年之始捐 款成立香港中文大學發展基金的善長。在政府撥款有減無加 的艱難情況下，中大不能不更依賴私人的贊助和捐贈，以維 持髙水準的研究和敎學。截至二零零零年六月底，我們共 籌得私人捐款約兩億港元，單是贈予香港中文大學發展基金 的，就有七百萬元。我們希望在新的世紀，這些無指定用途 的捐款會逐年增加，讓我們可以更靈活地推動校務。 除了盡量開源，以支持大學的良好運作，我們也為新紀元的 來臨，做了極多的準備工夫。 新設課程 其中一項重要任務，就是開辦切合社會發展需要的新課程。 今年我們的酒店管理工商管理學士課程和中醫學學士課程招 收了第一批學生。前者為配合政府振興旅遊業及本港經濟 而設，喜得新世界發展有限公司襄助，於校園興建國際四星 級敎學酒店，預計於二零零四年落成。中醫學學士課程則 w h i c h some H K $ 7 m i l l i on was raised t h r o u gh the m i l l e n n i um appeal alone. New Programmes On e major concern has been th e i n t r o d u c t i on of new programmes to meet n ew societal needs. T he year saw the first batch of undergraduate students being admitted to the B B A programme i n hote l management and the Bachelor of Chinese Medicine programme.
