I n A p r i land M a y 2000, return visits t o C U H K were made b y the Centre N a t i o n al d e l a RechercheScientifique (CNRS) o f France, th e Institut N a t i o n al d e Recherche e n Informatique e t e n Au t oma t i q u e, th e Un i v e r s i ty o f Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, and Ecole Fran ç aise d ' E x t r ê me Orient . T he Danish Rectors' delegation t o C U H K i n June 2000 opened th e gateway f o r student and faculty exchange w i t h Scandinavian universities, including th e Technical Un i v e r s i t y o f D e nma r k. D u r i ng 1999-2000, a total o f 111 students f r o m th e Un i v e r s i ty t o o k part i n various overseas exchange programmes, and a selection exercise made i n July 2000 indicated that th e n umb er o f outgoing students i s expected t o increase t o 120 i n 2000-1. Th e Un i v e r s i ty w i l l endeavour t o create mo re exchange opportunities t o enable 1 0 pe r cent o f each graduating class t o benefit f r o m international exposure. I n th e sameyear, th e Un i v e r s i ty played host t o mo re than 100 delegations f r om institutions o n th e mainland and i n Taiwan. N e w exchange agreements were concluded w i t h th e Foreign Affairs College, Fudan University, H a r b in Un i v e r s i ty o f Technology, L a n z h ou University , Sichuan Un i v e r s i t y, th e Department o f Psychology of Peking University, and the Institute o f Psychology o f the Chinese A c a d emy o f Science. T he Un i v e r s i ty also established the Shanghai-Hong K o n g joint research
