Yue expounding on Hong Kong's language education 推廣文化藝術 中文大學及其成員書院經常主辦傑出學人訪問計劃,邀請世 界知名學者蒞校,主持公開講座及研討會,促進學術交流。 過去一年在中大發表演説的著名專家學者有語言學家余靄斧 敎 授 、 科 學 家 田 長 霖 敎 授 、 運 動 科 學 家 P r o f .J ames R. M o r r o w J r . 、 社 會 學家 Prof. R a y m o nd B o u d o n 、 敎 育 學家 Prof. J on Douglas W i l l ms 和 Prof. J o hn R. Mallea , 以 及 認 知 心 理 學 家 Prof. W i l l i am D . Marslen-Wilson 等 。 大學文物館每年舉辦多項展覽,並配以研討會、刊物等,增 進社會人士對藝術的認識和欣賞。 該館是年與浙江省博物館合辦「中國歷代璽印藝術」展覽, 展出兩館珍藏璽印,後更移師浙江省博物館展出,並在兩 地分別舉辦「中國古璽印學國際研討會」及「明清篆刻流派 印國際研討會」,中外學者出席者眾,極一時之盛。 Promotion of Art and Culture Each year th e Un i v e r s i ty and its constituent colleges organize a variety of distinguished professorship/fellowship schemes w h i ch bring outstanding scholars the w o r l d over to the campus. T he public lectures and seminars they give invigorate the intellectual c o mm u n i t y of H o n g K o n g and generate beneficial academic exchanges. P r om i n e nt visitors during 1999-2000 included linguis t Prof. A n ne O . Yu e, scientist Prof. T i en Chang-lin, physical education scientist Prof. James R. M o r r o w Jr., sociologist Prof. R a y m o nd Boudon , educationists Prof. Jon Douglas W i l l ms and Prof. J o hn R. Mallea, and cognitive psychologist Prof. W i l l i am D . Marslen-Wilson. T he A r t Mu s e um o f the Un i v e r s i ty continued to contribute to the cultural life of H o n g K o n g b y p r o m o t i ng the appreciation of Chinese art t h r o u gh its exhibitions, publications , and seminars. This year the A r t Mu s e um co-organized w i t h the Zhejiang Provincial Mu s e um an exhibiton ' T he A r t of A n c i e nt Chinese Seals T h r o u gh the Ages'. T he exhibits were d r a wn f r o m the collection s of b o th museums, and displayed i n b o th H o n g K o n g and Hangzhou. T w o international symposi a on 'Ancient Chinese Seals' and 'Seal Carving Schools of the M i n g and Q i n g Periods' respectively were organized i n the t w o places, attracting a large n umb er of experts and scholars. O t h er special exhibitions organized during the year included ' M i l l e n n i um T r i b u t e: Highlights f r om the A r t Mu s e um Collection', featuring items donated by local and overseas collectors and benefactors, and 'Sparkling Splendours: The A r t of A n c i e nt Chinese Carvings o n Ro ck Crystal and Agate - T he Taoshi Z h ai Collection', w i t h exhibits d r a wn f r o m the personal collection of M r . Roger C h o w, w h o also conducted a lecture on the particular subject. A n exhibition ‘The A r t of Feng Kanghou: Calligraphy, Painting and Seal Carving' was co-organized w i t h the Guangya Society of Calligraphy. T h r o u g h o ut the year more than 30,000 visitors were attracted to th e A r t Museum. O n another front, the Chinese Un i v e r s i ty Press publishes scholarly w o r ks f or the academic c o mm u n i ty and books for general readers. D u r i ng 1999-2000, it published 27 new or revised academic books, f o ur issues of academic journals, and 14 n ew or revised general titles. Eight published titles were also reprinted.
