服務香港 放眼世界 60 SERVICETOHON G KON GAN DTH EWORL D 支援工商業 本校亞太工商研究所致力提供培訓、研究及顧問服務，以加 強本地工商管理人員的實力，應付經濟快速轉型的挑戰。 是年該所與美國多所著名學府合辦行政人員培訓課程，並為 本地及內地企業舉辦培訓班、工作坊和研討會，另十項公 開文憑課程，其中一項由該所主辦，一項與香港聯合交易所 合辦，八項與校內工商管理學院合辦。該所每年又開辦商業 傳意證書課程，以增強商業行政人員運用英語的能力。 香港生物科技研究院有限公司自一九八八年成立以來，一直 致力推動本地生物科技工業的發展。 今年該院為世界衛生組織生產一種抗瘧疾的新疫苗，並成立 臨床實驗監察小組，與中大醫學院於威爾斯親王醫院進行 新疫苗的第一期臨床實驗。 該院又於一九九九年十一月成立中藥製程開發中心，為本地 中藥研究機構提供製程開發支援。 二零零零年三月，該院開始裝修其藥物製造技術中心，使升 格成為本港首個符合世界優良藥品製造規範的先導生產車 間。 In Support o fBusiness and Industry T o assist managers i n th e business c o mm u n i ty t o adapt t o th e fast changing knowledge economy, training programmes and research/consultancy services were provided t h r o u gh th e University's Asia-Pacific Institute o f Business (APIB). D u r i n g 1999-2000, several executive training programmes were organized i n conjunction w i t h major universities i n th e U n i t ed States. In-company training workshops an d seminars f o rlocal and mainland companies were also conducted. A total o f 1 0 public diploma programmes and one certificate programme were offered. O f those, eight were j o i n t ly organized w i t h th e Faculty o f Business A dm i n i s t r a t i o n, one w i t h th e Stock Exchange o f H o n g K o n g, and one b y A P I B itself. T h e certificate p r o g r amme was i n business c ommu n i c a t i on and served t o help business executives enhance their English proficiency. T h e H o n g K o n g Institute o f Biotechnology L i m i t ed ( HK I B) was established i n 1988 as th ecatalyst and th e essential infrastructure f o r H o n g Kong's biotechnology industry. One i mp o r t a nt achievement o f the H K I B i n the year was th e p r o d u c t i on o f a n ew anti-malaria vaccine f o r the W o r l d H e a l th Organization. A Clinical T r i al M o n i t o r i ng U n i t was also se t u p i n collaboration w i t h the Faculty o f Medicine t o c a n y ou t Phase I Clinical T r i a l o f the vaccine a t th e Prince o f Wales H o s p i t al A n o t h er major development was th e opening o f a Process Development Facility f o r Chinese Medicine i n N o v e m b er 1999 t o provide downstream support f o r Chinese medicine development.
