中大交換生 (左) 出發前參加暑期培訓計劃 的行前輔導講座(中)及社交舞班(右) An orientation seminar (middle) and the Social Dance Class (right) of the Pre-Summer Programme for outgoing exchange students (left) 各種於內地城市舉辦的就業發展計劃,都極受學 生歡迎。 我們早於去年規定,所有新生必須掌握一定程度 的資訊科技,方符合畢業要求。今年我們側重鼓 勵各學系合辦更多的跨科跨文化課程,以擴闊 學生的知識基礎。是年推出的現代語言及文化文 學士課程、風險管理科學理學士課程,以及電子 商貿管理理學碩士課程等,均屬此列。 而為了培育廿一世紀的領袖人才,我們籌劃了 一項嶄新的領袖培育課程,將於二零零一年八月 展開。是項課程專為有潛質並有志成為各行各業 領導人才的學生開設,著重德育和美學的培訓, 領導潛能的發展,公民敎育,以及非形式活動。 我們相信新世紀的領導人物,不但要有個人魅 力,性格積極主動,且要有極強的分析能力, 精於解難和談判,擅於溝通,更要充分掌握世界 動向,有應付各種壓力的能耐,並懂得欣賞生 活的意趣。 致力保持水準 要確保各項新課程新措施能取得成效,以協助香 港應付挑戰並掌握機遇,我們必定要維持高素質 的敎學和研究工作。這項任務在政府持續削減 大學經費的情況下,倍覺沉重,但我們必會悉力 以赴。 their knowledge base. The BA programme in modern languages and intercultural studies, the B.Sc. programme in risk management, and the M.Sc. programme in e-commerce (business programme) which were launched during the year all fell into such a category. And to help nurture leaders of the 21st century, an innovative Leadership Development Programme was finalized for introduction in August 2001. It was designed for selected students aspiring to assume leadership roles in their future careers, with special emphasis being given to ethical education and aesthetic training, development of leadership potential, civic education, and non-formal activities. The underlying concept was that in an increasingly global human society of the Information Age, leaders should possess not only charisma, initiative, power of analysis, and negotiation and problem solving skills, they should also have excellent communication skills, an acute awareness of the world they live in, and the ability to cope with pressures of all sorts and to appreciate the finer things in life. maintenance of Quality So that these new initiatives would achieve their intended purpose of serving the needs of Hong Kong as it face s both threats and opportunities, we paid special attention to the maintenance of quality in teaching , learning, and research. In the light of perennial reductions in government grants for higher education, the task had become more difficult and we had to double our efforts during the year.
