有關問題，兩個小組都由校董會主席擔任召集 人。 「大學管治專責小組」於二零零三年五月向校董會 呈交中期報告，報告的建議之一，是成立一個不 多於十四名成員的校董會執行委員會，並將校董 會的部分職權轉授予這個執行委員會，以處理大 學的日常事務。這只是改組大學最高的決策及行 政組織的第一步，小組將於二零零三至二零零四 年度陸續檢討其他管治及管理架構（包括敎務會 等）的規模及成員組織，於有需要時向校董會提 交改革的建議。 至於「探討大學整合專責小組」，則於二零零二年 十月成立，專責硏究中大與科大整合的可欲性和 可行性。經過大半年的深入硏究、廣泛諮詢和理 性分析，小組於二零零三年三月杪向校董會提交 報告，校董會亦通過接納全部建議，授權有關人 士就兩校整合的可能性，與政府進一步磋商，以 配合中大不斷追求卓越，以禆益整個香港社會的 宏願和使命。截至二零零三年七月，校方仍就整 合建議之中的幾個必須關注事項，等待政府的正 式回應。 學術發展 至於學術方面的發展，有三項值得在此一提。 首先是通識敎育課程的全面檢討，這項工作由楊 The Task Force to Advise on Institutional Integration was set up in October 2002 to study the desirability and feasibility of the proposed merger with the HKUST. After months of extensive study, wide consultation, and careful and rational deliberation, the task force submitted its report to the University Council in late March 2003. The Council endorsed its recommendations in full, indicating a willingness to consider the proposed integration with the HKUST in the context of the University's overall plan to pursue excellence and to contribute to the well-being of the community at large. By the end of July 2003, the University is awaiting response from the government on the concerns raised in the task force's report before engaging in discussions with relevant parties on the way forward. Academic Developments On the academic front, three special developments are worth mentioning. First, a major review of our General Education Programme was started in September 2002 under the leadership of Prof. Kenneth Young. General education has been a major component of our undergraduate programme since 1963. The review will thoroughly study the manner in which it is being offered and set new directions if necessary in respect of choice, unit requirement, quality control etc. The review is nearing completion and recommendations will be put to the Senate for consideration as the new academic year begins. Following the introduction of sub-degree programmes by the School of Continuing Studies last year in response to the government's call to diversify post-secondary education for the young people of Hong Kong, a University Extension Board was established this year to formulate and 6 香港中文大學年報 CUHK Annual Report 2002-2003
