(1) 安全訓練 Safety training (2) 專業承判商清理過期化學品 Disposal of expired chemicals by a specialist contractor stability assessment works for other slopes was put forward to the UGC during the year. Towards the end of 2002, the University had received in 11 phases a total of HK$350.6 million in funding from the UGC for stabilization works. Works worth HK$144.2 million were completed by mid 2003. Outlying Development Negotiations on the teaching hotel project on the waterfront were in progress with technical issues yet to be resolved. The design of the teaching block was revised and construction costs were being re- estimated. The reprovisioning of facilities on Eastern campus, including the Water Sports Centre and the Refuse Collection Point, was behind schedule. The temporary bus parking compound was commissioned for use during the year. Construction works for the new fuel dispenser were in progress. Occupation permit for the Waste Disposal Facilities Building was obtained in July 2003. A proposal to provide a branch-off access road within the Eastern campus to the Hong Kong Institute of Biotechnology Ltd. was under consideration. Safety on Campus The University stepped up measures to enhance general safety on campus over the past year through a range of measures: the provision of safety 截至二零零二年底，敎資會批出共十一期的鞏固 斜坡工程撥款，涉及金額逾三億五千萬港元，其 中約值一億四千四百萬港元的工程已經完成。 校園邊陲發展項目 於吐露港畔興建的敎學酒店遇到技術問題，校方 正與有關當局磋商，又修改了酒店敎學大樓的設 計，並重新評估所需的建築費用。 校園東區設施(包括水上活動中心和垃圾收集站） 的遷建進度比預期稍慢；但位於該處的臨時校巴 停泊區已經啟用，新燃料分送器的興建工程亦進 行得如火如荼，廢棄物處理設備也於二零零三年 七月開始使用。校方又考慮在校園東區興建一條 支路，通往香港生物科技硏究院。 校園安全 為了提高校園環境的安全，校方不斷加強監察和 做好預防措施，包括為員工提供安全訓練，定期 實地視察並提供安全建議，審核與實驗有關的硏 究計劃申請書，協助監察實驗室輻射安全和推行 相關的審核制度與聯絡人制度，嚴格評核建築安 全計劃，集中處理危險品的購買和運送，以及化 學和生物廢物的清理。 校 園 建 設 與 環 境 保護 Campus Development and Environmental Protection 99
