(1)(2)(3) 四十周年校慶活動於二零零三年 二月二十三日揭開幔幕 Kick-off of 40th anniversary celebrations on campus on 23rd February 2003 (4) 饒宗頤敎授（右）將親書的對聯「蘊 真愜所遇，振藻若有神」贈予大學， 誌賀中大成立四十周年，由金耀基 校長代表大學接受。 Prof. Jao Tsung-I (right) presenting a couplet written in his own calligraphy to Prof. Ambrose King as a gift to the University review strategies for offering such programmes by University units and make recommendations for their approval by the Senate. The University also finalized plans to collaborate with the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in setting up a community college, which will award associate degrees in its own name. The University has pledged to give the college full support in curriculum development and quality assurance via the University Extension Board. Another major development was the government's adoption of the Sutherland Report in late 2002, which has important bearings on the future mode of resource allocation by the UGC. To allow more time for the introduction of new planning and funding parameters, the UGC decided on a one-year rollover of the current triennium (2001-4) to 2004-5. The University's academic development proposal for the rollover year was subsequently submitted to the UGC in March 2003; we have also started to prepare ourselves seriously for a performance and role- related funding scheme that would begin from the 2005-8 triennium. 40th Anniversary Celebrations Meantime, a year-long programme for the University's 40th anniversary celebrations in 2003 was drawn up in November 2002, with Prof. Pak- wai Liu serving as chairman of the 40th Anniversary Celebration Coordinating and Working Committee. The slogan 'Advance and Excel' was adopted to set the theme for celebration and a myriad of activities were planned from January 2003 to January 2004, some to raise funds, some to showcase the University's accomplishments, some to share our joy with the alumni and the general public. A 10-year vision statement was also prepared to give focus to the University's aspirations as it marches into its fifth decade. 綱凱敎授領導，於二零零二年九月展開。通識敎 育自中大成立之初，已是本科課程的重要組成部 分，多年來不斷演變，經歷數次重整。這次檢討 的重點包括選修科目的機制，學分要求的訂定， 以及課程素質的保證等，以配合近年有關收生和 本科課程的新發展。預計檢討結果將於下學年初 呈交敎務會考慮。 第二項新發展是設立大學擴展敎育課程局，以統 籌副學位課程的策劃和審核。中大的校外進修學 院於去年首次推出副學士學位課程，為本地年輕 人提供更多樣化的專上敎育機會。校內其他部門 要開設類似課程，現須透過新成立的擴展敎育課 程局向敎務會申請。大學又於今年與東華三院達 成協議，合作成立社區學院，該學院可獨立頒發 副學士學位，而中大則承諾透過大學擴展敎育課 程局，為之提供課程發展的支援及素質保證。 另一項重要發展，是政府於二零零二年杪通過接 納宋達能報告書有關高等敎育發展的建議，意味 著敎資會未來對大學的資助，將採用新的評核標 準和機制。由於適應新制度需時，下一個撥款三 年期將順延一年，至二零零五年才開始，而中大 為二零零四至二零零五年預備的學術發展建議 書，則已於二零零三年三月呈交敎資會考慮；為 了配合敎資會日後按院校角色和表現來分配資源 的新政策，校方亦開始積極準備。 校長報告 Vice-Chancellor's Review 7
