New Personnel Policies, Services, and Conditions of Service Salary Administration Following the introduction of a new progression scheme for non-clinical academic staff, a similar scheme was implemented for clinical academic staff from July 2003. The appointment levels of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, and Professor of a subject/speciality were adopted, broadly based on the North American academic system. The appointment and advancement of staff members continue to be subject to rigorous review. To attract and retain quality teaching staff and introduce incentives for good performance, the University adopted a new salary administration system from July 2003, following the implementation of a revamped salary administration system for non-teaching staff from January 2003. The main feature of the system for teachers is the flexibility allowed in salary offers upon initial appointment and for in-service salary increment. Salary adjustment reviews for them will be based on performance, to be conducted at two-year intervals. Leave The provisions for training leave and conference leave for staff members were rationalized. Staff members on Terms of Service (A)/(B)/(C) or equivalent contracts may, where applicable, be allowed to take a defined number of days of leave in a year to engage in training activities relevant and useful to their duties.
