李炳醫學圖書館新貌 The renovated Li Ping Medical Library 位於威爾斯親王醫院的李炳醫學圖書館經翻新及 擴充後，總面積由八百七十平方米增至一千一百 七十二平方米，座位數目也由一百二十一個增至 一百七十七個，另增加了多項設施，包括二十四 小時開放的硏讀室。 新亞圖書館獲撥款改建、加建及修繕，並將設立 藝術藏區。 大學圖書館亦增撥資源以加強電腦病毒的監察， 提高網絡安全。館內部分電腦從 Pentium II 提升至 Pentium I V ，而主要閲覽區都受無線網絡覆蓋 ——是校園內唯一提供此種服務的公共地方。 資訊科技服務 提升科硏系統及網絡服務 大學於本年度添置一台 S u n Fire 6 8 0 0伺服器， 配備十六組 Superscalar SPARC V9 (UltraSparc III 6 4 - b i t ) 9 0 0MHz 中央處理器，總體速度高達每 秒二百八十八億次浮點運算，系統的儲存量高達 六百四十億字節，可處理要求高儲存量的運算程 式，例如並行運算。 頻寬為 4 5 M b p s 的專用線路已於二零零二年十月 開通，並連接第二代互聯網。本校聯同「大學聯 合電腦中心」各成員院校，參與由美國先進互聯 The Li Ping Medical Library at the Prince of Wales Hospital was completely renovated and extended. Total floor area increased from 870 square metres to 1,172 square metres and seating capacity was increased from 121 to 177 seats. Many facilities were added, including a 24-hour study room. There was also a project to refurbish the whole New Asia library during the summer of 2003 with a corner specially reserved for the Fine Arts Collection. More resources were added to enhance network security in monitoring computer virus and updating anti-virus patterns. PCs at some libraries were upgraded from Pentium II to Pentium IV. All major study areas are now covered with a wireless network, making the ULS the only public area in the University with this provision. Computer and Information Technology Services Enhanced Computer and Network Facilities for Research A new computing server was launched during the year to serve the community of researchers. Equipped with a 16-way 900 MHz superscalar SPARC V9 (UltraSparcIII 64-bit) processors and 64 GB memory, the Sun Fire 6800 server delivers an aggregate computing power of 28.8 GFLOPS (giga floating-point operations per second). Its huge memory capacity is particularly suitable for solving highly parallel and memory-intensive computing problems. A 45Mbps link to I ntemet2 was put into production in October 2002.
