Memb e rs of the panels i n c l u d ed the v i s i t i ng examiners of the p r o g r ammes reviewed. The panels r e v i ewed the substance of the teaching a nd l e a r n i ng processes w i t h reference to the p r o g r amme s' self- e v a l u a t i on d o c ume nt a nd t h r o u gh meetings w i t h staff, students a nd recent graduates of the p r o g r amme s. The f i n d i n gs a nd r e c omme n d a t i o ns of the panels were considered b y the Senate Comm i t t ee o n Teaching a nd Learning, a nd then c ommu n i c a t ed to the p r o g r ammes for feedback and i mp r o v eme nt purposes. Based o n the results of the reviews, g o od practices evidenced i n the r e v i ew exercise were p r omu l g a t ed amo ng other p r o g r ammes for reference. Honesty in Academic Work The Un i v e r s i ty places v e ry h i gh importance o n honesty i n academic w o r k s u bm i t t ed b y students. I n M a y 2005 it developed a website entitled ' Ho n e s ty i n Ac a d em ic Wo r k: A Gu i de for Students a nd Teachers' (http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/policy/academichonesty) w h i ch contains useful i n f o r ma t i on for teachers a nd students, such as regulations o n honesty i n academic w o r k a nd guidelines o n the proper use of source materials. Compulsory Language Requirement I n 2004-05, the Un i v e r s i ty i mp l eme n t ed a u n i f o r m, coherent system of c omp u l s o ry credit-bearing l a n g u a ge courses for all u n d e r g r a d u a te students, w i t h a v i e w to s t r e n g t h e n i ng the e x i s t i ng language enhancement programmes. Students are required to complete a n umb er of Chinese a nd English courses, as prescribed b y i n d i v i d u al faculties. Secondary 6 entrants are also required to complete a course o n expository w r i t i n g. Recruitment of Non-local Undergraduates The University has been recruiting non-local undergraduates via a special scholarship scheme since 1998. A b o ut 30 undergraduates are recruited annually f r om partner institutions o n the mainland. T he U n i v e r s i ty also r e c r u i ts f e e - p a y i ng n o n - l o c al u n d e r g r a d u a t es f r o m n e a r by r e g i o n s. I n 2005, the U n i v e r s i ty p a r t i c i p a t ed i n the N a t i o n al Colleges a n d Un i v e r s i t i es E n r o l me nt System, t h r o u gh w h i ch students f r om 17 provinces/cities were recruited. Other undergraduates came f r om the Un i t ed States, Australia, Italy, Peru, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Korea and Taiwan.
