Community Service I n 2004-05, University faculty and staff continued to lend their expertise to many local and international organizations, serving these bodies i n such capacities as chairpersons, presidents and vice-presidents, committee members, editorial board members, advisers, and consultants. Their dedicated service and s i gn i f i c ant c o n t r i b u t i on to the be t t e rment of the local and international community w o n them many accolades. Three members of the University were on the Year 2005 Honours List of the Government of the Ho ng Kong Special Administrative Region. Mr. Vincent Cheng Hoi-cheung, member of the N ew Asia College Board of Trustees, was awarded the Gold Bauhinia Star. Mr. Ian C.W. Fok, member of the Un i t ed College Board of Trustees, was awarded the Silver Bauhinia Star. Dr. Thomas Cheung Huen-cheong, vice-chairman of the United College Board of Trustees, was awarded the Medal of Honour. Prof. Jack Cheng Chun-yiu, pro-vice-chancellor and professor of orthopaedics and traumatology, was awarded the hono r a ry title of Fellow of Biomaterials Science and Engineering by the International Un i on of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering. Prof. He n ry N.C. Wong, head of N ew Asia College and professor of chemistry, had been elected as Fellow of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World; Prof. Zh ou Xu n yu of the Department of Systems En g i n e e r i ng and En g i n e e r i ng Ma n a g eme n t, Prof. Wei Juncheng of the De p a r t me nt of Mathematics, and Prof. Xia Keqing of the Department of Physics were awarded the Croucher Foundation Fellowships 2005. Prof. Tony Lee, professor of i n f o rma t i on engineering, Prof. Jie Hu a ng of the Department of Au t oma t i on and Compu t e r - A i ded Engineering, and Prof. Z h ou X u n yu of the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management were elected IEEE Fellows. Prof. Chow Hak Fun, Prof. Ke v in W.P. Leung, Prof. Dennis K.P. N g and Prof. Tony K.M. Shing of the Department of Chemistry, and Prof. Leung Ho Fung of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering were awarded the designation of Chartered Scientist by the Science Council, United Kingdom.
