學術發展 Academic Development 31 • The Department of Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering, in cooperation with the Hong Kong Technology Education Association, organized the second Internet-based Robotics Inter-School competition (IRIS) from May to July 2006 with the sponsorship of the Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund. • The faculty and Ming Pao ’s Children City’s Weekly jointly organized public lectures on CUHK campus and exhibitions on the development of multiple intelligences for children in April 2006. Professors from the faculty delivered lectures on how to develop children’s interest in technology as a part of their multiple intelligences development. • The Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management and the Hong Kong Computer Education Association jointly organized the First Inter-School Competition on System Modeling and Optimization (COSMO) in May 2006. • The Elite Club organized a series of activities for secondary student members who are interested in technology and engineering. The activities included the Summer Technology Camp from 27 to 29 July and the Elite University Research Opportunity Programme (EUROP) in early August.˙ • Information Sciences, one of the major research focuses of the faculty, was identified as one of the Strategic Research Investment Areas of the University. Departments of the faculty will step up their efforts to strengthen research activities in this area. • The Department of Automation and Computer-Aided Engineering secured an Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) grant of $60 million for a project to develop technologies and facilities for designing and building mechanical watch movements, and another ITF grant of over $14 million for a project on the Intelligent Omni-directional Hybrid Electric Vehicle in collaboration with local industry. • The faculty helped to coordinate the following technology-related exhibitions: – University-wide participation in the Innovation Expo (29 September - 2 October 2005) organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR government – University-wide delegations to participate in the 7th China High Tech Fair held in Shenzhen (12-17 October 2005) and the Innovation and Design Expo held in Hong Kong (21-23 November 2005) 第七屆中國國際高新科技成果交易會 The 7th China High Tech Fair 與《明報兒童周刊》合辦的講座及展覽 Public lecture and exhibition on the development of multiple intelligences for children Acade ic Develop ent
