學術發展 Academic Development 37 Acade ic Develop ent • An agreement for exchanging faculty members between the Economics Departments of CUHK and Claremont Mckenna College was concluded in January 2006. • The Centre for Environmental Policy and Resource Management of the Department of Geography and Resource Management organized the Regional Conference on Public Participation in Environmental Impact Assessment jointly with the Hong Kong Institute of Environmental Impact Assessment on 8 to 10 June 2006. • The School of Journalism and Communication conducted a series of activities to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The largest event was an international conference entitled ‘The Fourth Conference of Media and Communication in Chinese Civilization’ held from 23 to 27 September 2005. Another activity was the second CUHK Journalism Award, which aimed to promote excellence in professional practices in journalism. • The Department of Social Work co-organized ‘Asia’s Social Security Symposium, Social Policy and Poverty in East Asia: The Role of Social Assistance’ with the School of Social Welfare of UC Berkeley, from 27 to 29 March 2006. Leading social policy experts from China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the US explored the role of social policy in addressing the poverty problem in Asia, and discussed the policies and measures needed to promote economic growth and full employment. • The Gender Studies Programme and the Gender Research Centre co-organized a series of academic activities on gender issues from 4 to 6 April 2006. Prof. Lisa Rofel, a professor from UC Santa Cruz, presented topics on Gender and Consumption in Contemporary China, Legislating Desire: Homosexuality, Intellectual Property Rights and Consumer Fraud, and discussed Gender and Neo-liberalism with participants. 新聞與傳播學院慶祝四十周年晚宴並頒發第二屆新聞獎 The 40th Anniversary Dinner and the 2nd CUHK Journalism Award presentation ceremony
