74 Scholarships and Financial Assistance During the period under review, the total amount given out in the form of scholarships and financial assistance to students was HK$53.73 million, of which HK$26.84 million was granted via the Office of Student Affairs and the rest by the four colleges and other offices of the University. A total of 2,076 university- and college-administered scholarships and prizes with an aggregate value of HK$23.51 million was awarded to students with outstanding academic achievements. Among them, 98, worth a total of HK$2.53 million, were awarded to students with outstanding performance in the HKCEE who were admitted via the Early Admissions Scheme. Of these 2,076 awards, about 8% carried a value sufficient to cover the annual tuition fee of HK$42,100 or more. In addition, about HK$5.47 million was granted to 160 students to participate in university-arranged exchange programmes, postgraduate studies, conferences and overseas study tours. A total of 190 students from the Mainland were awarded scholarships involving HK$20.97 million for their studies in Hong Kong. In 2005-06, HK$2.55 million was given out in the form of loans and HK$1.2 million in the form of bursaries to help students who failed to benefit from the government’s Local Student Finance Scheme. During the same period, 912 students benefited from the Student Campus Work Schemes and the Outward Bound Programmes sponsored by the University and the colleges, for which HK$2.1 million was disbursed. Student Counselling and Development Service In 2005-06, the Student Counselling and Development Service provided a wide range of preventive, remedial and developmental counselling services and programmes for students. Over 400 students benefited from individual counselling service while over 3,000 students attended the various developmental programmes organized by the service. During the first term, the primary focus was on helping new students achieve a smooth transition from secondary school to university life. The theme ‘Pursuing Your Ideal U Life’ was adopted for the annual Self-Enhancement Campaign for Freshmen to encourage students to set personal goals and achieve holistic personal growth. The campaign included presentations in the College General Education Classes, a health survey, follow-up counselling and the publication of a self-help brochure Personal Growth and Development in the University . Efforts to facilitate the integration of new students into the University also included orientation programmes and outreach programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students. During the year, the service conducted, sometimes in collaboration with other units, developmental programmes aimed at enhancing self-understanding, confidence, effectiveness, and cultural adjustment. 獎學金及經濟援助 二零零五至零六年度發給學生的獎學金及經濟援 助總金額達五千三百七十三萬港元,其中二千六百 八十四萬港元由學生事務處分發,餘額則由四所成 員書院及大學其他部門分發。 大學及書院為獎勵成績優異的學生,共頒發獎學金 及學業優異獎二千零七十六項,金額達二千三百五 十一萬港元。其中九十八名會考成績優異經「優先 錄取計劃」入學的學生,獲得獎學金總額達二百五 十三萬港元,其中約百分之八的金額超過四萬二千 一百港元,足以支付得獎者的全年學費。 此外,一百六十名學生獲頒獎學金,到海外參加交 換計劃、會議、交流團,以及修讀研究院課程,金額 共五百四十七萬港元。一百九十名內地生獲頒獎學 金來校攻讀,金額共二千零九十七萬港元。 大部分需要經濟援助的學生均可獲政府的本地專 上學生資助計劃資助,但仍有小部分學生基於種種 原因須向大學求助。本年度校方為學生提供貸款共 二百五十五萬港元,另助學金一百二十萬港元,解 決他們的經濟困難。 此外,九百一十二名生曾參加大學或書院贊助的學 生工讀計劃和外展訓練課程,共領取津貼二百一十 萬港元。 學生輔導及發展 二零零五至零六年度,學生輔導及發展組為同學提 供了多項預防、治療及促進個人成長的心理輔導服 務及活動。全年有超過四百名學生接受個人輔導, 而參與各項活動的則約三千人。 上半年度,該組致力於協助新生適應大學生活。而 該年度的「新鮮人自我拓展系列」,仍以「踏出大 學站、續上成長路」為主題,透過書院通識專題講 座、健康問卷調查、個人輔導及自助教育單張等, 鼓勵同學善用大學提供的學習機會,為個人成長及 全人發展擬定目標。此外,該組亦參與內地本科生 和研究生所舉辦的迎新活動,以協助他們融入及 盡享大學生活。 除了透過網頁推廣心理健康教育外,該組亦定期出 版不同主題的文章及教育單張,供同學參閱。 該年度,該組舉辦了多項個人發展培訓活動,讓同 學加深自我認識、增強自信心及個人效能,與及提 升其跨文化的適應力。除此,該組更首次與大學保 健處和人事處員工培訓及發展組合作,舉辦一系列 健康講座,目的是提升前線員工的心理健康意識和 輔助同學的效能。
