學術發展 Academic Development 29 CUHK’s EMBA Programme was ranked No.15 worldwide and No. 1 Independent EMBA in the Asia-Pacific in the 2006 global ranking by the Financial Times released in October. Among all the independent programmes in the Asia-Pacific, CUHK EMBA was ranked top from 2003 to 2006 for four consecutive years. It was also ranked top from 2001 to 2006 for six consecutive years among all independent programmes in Asia. The programme scored high in areas such as salary increase rate, with a big jump from 59% in 2005 to 71% in 2006, and in percentages of female students, women faculty and women advisory board members. With the vision of strengthening the role of Hong Kong as the premier supply chain management and logistics centre in the Asia-Pacific region, the University has, with the sponsorship of Li & Fung Group, established the Li & Fung Institute of Supply Chain Management & Logistics to further consolidate research efforts on these areas. The institute was inaugurated on 8 November 2006 with the Honourable Stephen Ip, Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, as the officiating guest. It will focus on technology development, applied research and business process innovation on logistics and supply chain management. • • Miss Shelley Zhang Tianyu, a final-year Integrated BBA student, defeated 50 contenders from different local universities to become the 2007 Hong Kong Rhodes Scholar. She is the seventh Rhodes Scholar of the University in 10 years and the first mainland student at CUHK to receive the award. She is currently studying on the scholarship for an MSc in Financial Economics at Oriel College, Oxford University. The Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest and best-known award for international study, were established in 1902 by the will of Cecil Rhodes, with the aim to reward students of outstanding personality, strong intellectual ability, and good physical vigour. Miss Sharon Pang, a student in professional accountancy, won the PricewaterhouseCoopers Scholarship Programme 2007. She received a cash award of HK$30,000 and an overseas internship for six to eight weeks with PricewaterhouseCoopers. The scholarship was set up by Mr. Sanford Yung in 2001 to encourage and promote excellence in accounting among top university students. Sharon is the fourth CUHK student to win this prestigious award. Four business students, ChanYeung-yunGrace, Lui Chung-yan Jacky, YeungWing-lamWinnie, andHung Tik-yuen Raymond, won the International Business Challenge in October 2006 among their counterparts from 20 internationally renowned universities including the University of British Columbia, the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Texas at Austin. Competitors were requested to develop a marketing strategy for Netcast HD (a newly developed Internet-based entertainment network that delivers High Definition multi- media solution).
