Annual Report 2007–08

Introduction Preparations for 3+3+4 In preparation for the reversion to the four-year normative curriculum in 2012, we continued to give top priority to projects and measures for revamping academic curricula and providing the requisite educational facilities and infrastructure. Special attention was given to the enhancement of general education and language proficiency. A new integrated and student-oriented IT system was being actively planned. Meanwhile, we continued and made good progress in recruiting highly qualified teachers to help meet demands from the new curriculum. Major capital projects in connection with the 3+3+4 curriculum were implemented. The planning and design of a Centralized General Research Lab Complex in Area 39 and the Student Amenity Centre were on schedule for submission to the Public Works Subcommittee of the LegCo Finance Committee. The construction of an Inte- grated Teaching Complex was refined to a two- project format out of consideration for economies of scale. The library extension project was revisited with a view to maintaining the integrity of the central campus landscape and the University Square during construction. I look forward to seeing all of these projects completed in time to meet the educational and research needs of our students and teachers in 2012.
